The wine-up project is funded by the INTERREG IPA Cross Border Cooperation Programme “Greece – Republic of North Macedonia 2014-2020”. The main challenge that the project is about to tackle is to answer the question: “how can local authorities encourage tourism focusing in the wine production as part of their cultural and natural heritage in order to support employment in tourism?”. The answer comes using a notion which is in the centre of contemporary tourism theory and practice: through enhancing the wine “experience” in the cross border area linking it with its past and present heritage. The “experience” is what the tourists of today want to live and the wine and its tradition in both areas have a lot to offer under this new perspective. This is the new and innovative approach that the project takes in the two areas.
The wine-up project lasts 18 months and its total budget is 638.181,00 €. The Municipality of Pella is the lead partner with a budget of 329.423,00 €. The other partners are the Municipality of Negotino (189.802,00 €) and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Pella (118.956,00 €).
